Maybe step back and ask what are frames, not just what are they good for?
Limits define and definitions limit. They break down over infinities and disappear at zero. Everything in between is relational.
So the frames are nodes in the larger network, like organisms in the ecosystem.
By chasing the frames down their particular rabbit holes, we lose sight of the context, that both creates and dissolves them.
Time. Waves rising and falling.
As mobile organisms, this sentient interface our body has with its situation functions as a sequence of perceptions, in order to navigate, so our experience of time is as the present moving past to future. It's the basis of culture and civilization, as narrative and history. Physics codifies it as measures of duration.
The evident reality though, is that activity and the resulting change turns future to past. Tomorrow becomes yesterday, because the earth turns.
There is no dimension of time, because the past is consumed by the present, to inform and drive it. Causality and conservation of energy. Cause becomes effect.
The energy is conserved because it manifests this presence, creating time, temperature, pressure, color and sound, as frequencies and amplitudes, rates and degrees.
So the energy, as presence, goes past to future, because the patterns generated come and go, future to past. Energy drives the wave, the fluctuations rise and fall. No tiny strings necessary.
Consciousness also goes past to future, while the perceptions, emotions and thoughts giving it form and structure go future to past.
Suggesting consciousness functions as energy. Science tends to have the same problem with consciousness as it does with energy, in that it can only be defined in terms of the forms expressed.
The digestive system processes the energy, feeding the flame, while the nervous system sorts the patterns precipitating out, with the circulation system as feedback in the middle.
Given the academic tendency to see information processing as an end in itself, it does create a somewhat self contained community. There is a serious religion built up around math.
Consider epicycles were brilliant math, as a model of our view of the cosmos, but the conclusions drawn are flawed.
Yet it does seem math didn't learn the lesson. The models are abstractions of reality, not their basis.
The map can't contain all the information from the territory, or any signal gets lost in back in the noise. Aka, whiteout. Breakdown over infinities.
The fact is that the signals we naturally draw from the noise are what resonates and synchronizes with our prior knowledge, in a self re-enforcing feedback loop. So we are more inclined to keep patching the old models, than falsifying them.
This certainly applies to our cultural models, as the religions at the core tend to be thousands of years old mythologies each generation builds on and anyone seriously questioning them is released as noise. From drinking the hemlock to canceled.
Yet even some of our more popular scientific theories arise from the same basic dynamic, irrespective of any mathematical logic.
For instance, if intergalactic space were to expand, wouldn't the speed of the light crossing it have to increase proportionally, in order to remain CONSTANT???
Instead, two metrics are derived from the speed and spectrum of the same light. Given it is an expanding space and not tired light theory, the speed is still the denominator.
Occasionally the feedback loops need circuit breakers, or they spiral down the rabbit hole in the middle. Microphone up to the speaker and the shriek goes parabolic. Like much of current politics.
Artifical or natural, intelligence needs to understand the context in which it functions, or it ceases to be intelligent. GIGO.
We are linear, goal oriented creatures in a cyclical, circular, reciprocal, feedback generated reality.
It's like we haven't quite internalized the implications of the world being round, not flat.
Life is a dance, not a race.
