The function of niceness, aka, honesty, integrity, trust, truthfulness, etc, is that it empowers cooperation and thus the community functions as a larger organism.

There will always be the parasitic, but they tend to incur the immune response among the healthy and only kill the weak, making the larger group stronger.

Now in our age, the parasites seem to be killing the West, but the rest of the world seems to recognize that it is diseased, as it reaches its end state of cannibalizing its own strengths and not just predating on the rest of the world.
