One thing to keep in mind is that a primary function of our awareness is to detect signals in the noise. Whether it's berries on a bush, a threat in the environment, patterns that connect different parts of life, what others value, positive and negative situations, etc.

The problem is when we start abstracting it out beyond where it should be and the positive feedback turns negative. When some signals blind us to others. When we think if some is good, more must be better, etc. We are linear, goal oriented creatures, so this tendency comes naturally. Yet often the noise we discard is context for the signal, or the reactions to our actions are ignored until they get too big to ignore, etc.

The value of our sensitivity isn't to wallow in our own feelings, but to know the whole situation, inside and out.

The bull is power. The matador is art.
