One thought to keep in mind is Stephen Jay Gould’s Punctuated Equilibrium, as an evolutionary cycle.

Consider that the equilibrium stage is not static, but using every available resource and niche, thus selecting for specialization and complexity. Necessarily setting up for the punctuation, as this complexity starts to work against itself, as finite resources affect cooperation and the networking dries up.

In computer jargon, this is known as pushing the reset button.

Hopefully in the tech industry, this will mean less crapification, as the preference switches from newness, to durability.

People are linear and goal oriented, but nature is cyclical and reciprocal. Each phase becomes the shell incubating the next, not itself growing forever.

When it’s all foam and bubbles, the wave has crested.
