Philosophy was originally about how one should live one's life, ethics, etc. It was only as we became increasingly aware that we were still fairly clueless about the is, that prescribing the ought started to take a back seat.
Scientists and engineers have a great deal of trouble overcoming cultural assumptions, no matter how much they learn about the details. Look at what has happened to the Boeing Company, as the imperative of the bottom line overcame technical quality control.
It should be pretty obvious that theoretical physics has wandered off into the weeds, but there is no stopping a culture that sees more of the same as the answer.
While I don't expect anyone to take my views seriously, here is an interesting interview with someone who should have been taken seriously;

These are deeply philosophic issues, as it is about stepping back, looking at the bigger picture and figuring out how all these desparate aspects of life and reality fit together, rather than just ever more focused concentration on any and every detail, or at least those being funded and politically safe.
The current situation amounts to a global Tower of Babel.
It is not going to end well.
