Slightly off topic, but it seems to me the concept of quantum computing goes to that very edge of the relationship between energy and any information that can be extracted from it and quantum theory seems to assume that reality is fundamentally about the information. It from bit.
Yet it seems energy and information go opposite directions of time.
Energy is "conserved," because it is only present. Its changing configuration is time, as well as temperature, pressure, color sound. Frequencies and amplitudes. Time is frequency, events are amplitude.
There is no literal dimension of time, because the past is consumed by the present, to inform and drive it. Causality and conservation of energy. Cause becomes effect.
So energy, as process, the present, goes past to future, while the patterns generated go future to past.
In terms of a wave, the energy drives it, passing through, while the fluctuations rise and fall, future to past.
Tomorrow becomes yesterday, because the earth turns. Yesterday doesn't cause today, the sun shining on a spinning planet creates this cycle of days and nights. Sequence/time, is emergent from causality, not the other way around.
Though as these mobile organisms, with a sequential process of perception, in order to navigate, it is our digestive, respiratory and circulatory systems processing the energy driving us, while the central nervous system sorts and orders the patterns, signals from the noise. So there is an intellectual tendency to frame reality in terms of useful information.
Yet it seems even protons show ever more complex interactions, the more they are examined.
I find the sociological institutions driving this linear focus on ever greater greater computing power, as well as the deeper assumption of reality as fundamentally digital, to be immune to considerations of the context, so it raises the issue of what would be the function of this increased computing power. Speed up the stock markets, in order to garner more of those units of exchange, irrespective of whether this might be destroying the actual economy they mediate? More accurate ballistic weapons, etc?
It seems one more example of building out systems based on assumptions that have long outgrown their viability. The tool becomes the god. The medium becomes the message. People are linear, goal oriented creatures, while nature is cyclical, circular and feedback driven.
