Society is that dichotomy of raw social energies bubbling up, versus the civil and cultural forms they evolve and coalesce around.

Then we have this culture of consumerism, where any and every desire, impulse, appetite, grievence, etc is promoted to sell products, services, political movements, etc. Consequently there isn't much impulse control built into the paradigm.

The problem for progressive movements is that any form of social structure will entail some degree of selection and adherence to that process, ie, conservatism. The fact is that not every acorn gets to be an oak tree and unless we take on some of the process of selection, nature will do it for us otherwise.

So the only option is to break anything that resembles order. Eventually those who do take control will be the real sociopaths, because the most basic emotion is fear and those most able to instill that are the only ones who can establish order.

Individually people can be quite clever, but when the herd is stampeding, we are just animals.
