That vital sentience seeks form, like energy expresses form, but is not quite just form. One is dynamic, while the other is static.
We want our cake and eat it too.
Neither makes sense without the other.
Otherwise it's like saying the purpose of the flower is just to create seeds.
Our problem is our thought process is reductionist, but nature is wholistic.
The idea of meaning is like trying to find signal in the noise and thinking you can isolate one from the other.
It only works to the extent the signal you find is useful to you.
Ideals are not absolutes.
