The basic logical fallacy of monotheism is that a spiritual absolute/source of consciousness, would be that essence of sentience, from which we rise, not an ideal of wisdom and judgement, from which we fell. More the new born, than the wise old man. Consciousness seeking wisdom and knowledge, than any particular form of it. The light shining through the film, than the images on it.
Monotheism is entirely a political construct. The Ancients didn’t distinguish between religions and government. Monotheism equated with monarchy and singular top down rule, as in one god, one ruler. While poly and pantheism equated with democracy and republicanism. As in many gods, many voices/power centers.
It’s a nodes versus networks issue.
So when Constantine determined monotheism to be the default religous model, it left the divine right of kings as the default political model. When we went back to more democratic forms of government, separation of church and state became inherently necessary.
Good and bad are not some cosmic dual between the forces of righteousness and evil, but the basic biological binary of beneficial and detrimental. What’s good for the fox, is bad for the chicken. It is just that in order to function as a coherent whole, a society needs some singular set of rules.
Which inculcates us with an ideals based culture, where we are taught there is some more perfect state to be attained. Even when the ethical model breaks down, we still aspire to some further goal; happiness, fame, wealth, etc.
The problem is that nature is cyclical and reciprocal. For every action, there is that pesky equal and opposite reaction. More is not always better.
When we better understand how both sides of the coin are necessary and neither is on the path to nirvana, we might better modulate our ability to co-exist with each other and the planet.
