The fact is that good and bad are not some cosmic conflict between the forces of righteousness and evil, but the basic biological binary of beneficial and detrimental. So society has to evolve upwards.

Reality is this dichotomy of energy pushing out, as form coalesces in. Think galaxies.

As individual beings, we have the digestive, respiratory and circulatory systems processing the energy driving us on, along with a central nervous system to sort through the forms precipitating out, as well as referee the emotions and impulses bubbling up.

Society is that dichotomy of organic energies and desires bubbling up, as civil and cultural forms coalesce in. As these energies push at the weaknesses and cracks in the system, they are patched over, spreading the pressure around to other areas.

So there will always be that interplay between energy and the forms that steer and define it. If you chose to operate outside the social norms, for good, or bad, then you have to create your own rules and beliefs to live, or die, by.

Too much freedom becomes anarchy, while too much order becomes totalitarianism. We fluctuate somewhere in the middle.
