The fact the Dems settled on Biden is a far more effective method of party suicide, than actually trying to change. How much were Sanders or Warren really going to change the system, as opposed to simply spreading the goodies around a little more. Covid 19 has done far more to change the world, than they could ever imagine.

The problem is the left versus the right is that liberalism is about the social energies, while conservatism is about re-enforcing the cultural systems, so the right is explicitly about order. When leftists pass judgement, there is no larger agenda, because it’s about emotions, not judgement. “Identity politics.” So there is a list of grievances, but no carefully thought out system for effectively working through them, in the real world. That’s why leftists seem like children, while conservatives are like grumpy old men.

The problem is that the current culture is Capitalism! Though most believers have been indoctrinated to capitalism being synonymous with a market based economy, not using the financial circulation system to siphon all possible value out of everything and everyone.

That the best the left can come up with is Socialism just makes them the loyal opposition. The boogyman to wave at the drones and keep them in line.
