The logical flaw in moral absolutism is that if morality were absolute, it could not be transgressed. Like a temperature below absolute zero.

The fact is that morality is an ideal. Specifically, one that enables a healthy community. Both internally and symbiotically with its environment, thus enabling long term health.

Yet it seems the primary lesson the state of Israel learned from World War 2, is that it's ok to step on those weaker than you, if it might benefit your tribe.

Though sometimes short term gains do not translate into longer term benefits.

The bull is power. The matador is art.

When Western civilization has fully destroyed its viability, what will rise from the ashes will be societies where individual worth is measured in terms of what one adds to the community, not what one extracts from it. Which is to say that responsibilities trump rights. Back to square one.

Safe to say, we have a long way to fall, first.
