The mind is a map and model making process. What our culture doesn't yet get, is there is no universal map or model. No omniscient omniscience, or theory of everything. The models break down over infinities and disappear at zero. Everything in-between is relational.
The Western sense of the future in front and the past behind goes to our object oriented paradigm, from atoms to individuals. While many aboriginal peoples are far more context oriented.
Nodes and networks.
Synchronization and harmonization.
Much of modern physics has wandered off down the rabbit holes, trying to construct a particle based model of reality, from atoms, to quanta, to strings. Then scratch their heads over "entangled particles."
Our narrative view of time is that the present goes past to future, when the evident reality is that activity and the resulting change turns future to past. Tomorrow becomes yesterday, because the earth turns.
There is no dimension of time, because the past is consumed by the present, to inform and drive it. Causality and conservation of energy. Cause becomes effect.
It's like a tapestry, being woven of strands being pulled from what was woven.
Energy goes past to future, because the patterns generated come and go, future to past. Energy drives the wave, the fluctuations rise and fall. No tiny strings necessary.
Lives go birth to death, future to past, while life moves onto the next generation, shedding the old, past to future.
Consciousness also goes past to future, while the perceptions, emotions and thoughts giving it form and structure go future to past.
It is the digestive system processing the energy, feeding the flame, while the nervous system sorts the patterns, with the circulation system as feedback in the middle.
Galaxies are energy radiating out, as structure coalesces in.
So it is a matter of how our minds construct maps and models from those patterns and whether and how they accord with the energies driving them.
The anarchies of desire, versus the tyrannies of judgement.
