The premise of moral relativism is opposed to the theological assumption of absolute right and wrong, but good and bad are not some cosmic duel between the forces of righteousness and evil, rather the basic biological binary of beneficial and detrimental. What is good for the fox is bad for the chicken.
Though in order to function a society needs some general agreement as to what is right and wrong. Thus the premise of morality as foundational.
The problem this creates is that when we view our ideals as absolute, it leaves open the implication that anyones aspirations are equally absolute. Thus multitudes of religions all claiming to be the one and only true religion.
We will eventually have to accept that such cultural models are best treated as tools, like languages. Aids to our growth. Not dictates in which everything must fit. Life is complicated.
