The problem is that as mobile organisms, our experience is as a sequence of perceptions, as a function of navigation, then as humanity, we have a narrative based culture, from telling each other our stories of our experiences, so we think of time as the present moving past to future, but it is change turning future to past. Potential, actual, residual. Tomorrow becomes yesterday, because the earth turns.
There is no literal dimension of time, because the past is consumed by the present, to inform and drive it. Causality and conservation of energy. Cause becomes effect.
Time is an effect, like temperature, pressure, color, sound. Think frequencies and amplitudes. Ideal gas laws correlate volume with temperature and pressure, but we don’t call them the 5th and 6th dimensions of space, because they are only foundational to our emotions, bodily functions and environment, not the sequence of thought.
It is a dichotomy of energy and form, as the energy is “conserved,” because it manifests the present, while forms rise and fall, like so many waves. So the process goes past to future, while the patterns generated go future to past.
As consciousness goes past to future, while thoughts and feelings go future to past. Lives go birth to death, while life moves onto the next generation, shedding the old, like so many layers of skin.
We have the digestive, respiratory and circulatory systems processing the energy driving us on, while the central nervous system sorts through the information precipitating out. Motor and steering.
The anarchy of desire, versus the tyranny of judgement.
Even galaxies are energy radiating toward infinity, while form coalesces toward equilibrium, both of which are entropic directions.
Cosmic convection cycles.
It should also be pointed out that the Big Bang cannot be falsified, as wherever there is a gap between prediction and observation, some otherwise invisible, enormous new force of nature is assumed. Remember that epicycles were brilliant math, as description, but the crysalline spheres were lousy physics, as explanation. Long story, but it goes in circles.
The earth really is round, not flat. We adapt slowly.
