The problem is that Israel has become a feedback loop with no circuit breakers, an echo chamber.

It is the nature of the mind and culture to pick out the signals from the noise that most clearly resonates and synchronizes with our prior beliefs and knowledge. So each generation adds layers to what came before. Which for Judaism is the trials and tribulations of that Bronze Age tribe. The Torah, the Old Testament.

To the Ancients, gods were ideals and metaphors. Like Rodin's The Thinker is a metaphor for cognition, carved in stone.

The origins of the Christian Trinity go to fertility rites, of the young god born in the spring to the old sky god and earth mother. Though by the age of the Olympians, Zeus didn't give way to Dionysus. Tradition prevailed over renewal.

Which was why the story of the crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus had such resonance across that world.

Democracy and republicanism originated in such pantheistic cultures. The many ideals, ideas, forces, factions interacting.

To the Ancients, monotheism equated with monoculture. One people, one rule, one god.

Ancient Israel was a monarchy. The Big Guy rules. Like the religion.

When Constantine adopted Christianity as the state religion of Rome, it was for the monotheism, as he was bringing the sides of the Empire together. The Big Guy Rules. While the Trinity was shrouded in the Holy Ghost.

The Catholic Church served as the eschatological basis for European monarchy. Divine right of kings, as opposed to consent of the governed.

When the West went back to more populist forms of government, it required separation of church and state, culture and civics.

The logical flaw in monotheism, as divine rule, is that ideals are not absolutes.

Truth, beauty, platonic forms are ideals. The core codes, creeds, heroes, narratives at the center of every culture are ideals.

The universal, on the other hand, is the elemental. So a spiritual absolute would be the essence of sentience, from which we rise, not an ideal of wisdom and judgement, from which we fell. The light shining through the film, than the stories playing out on it.

Morals can't be absolute, as they couldn't be transgressed, if they were. Like a temperature below absolute zero.

Morals are the ideals, codes, rules, behaviors, beliefs, etc, that enable a healthy and functional society.

Traditionally that one's status be a function of what one adds, not what one can extract. Which is a large part of why our current society is so necrotic.

As it is, the Zionists are trying to re-litigate the conflict the Maccabees and Zealots had with the Romans. That their god didn't have to bow to any other force.

While it might seem like a long time, in terms of cultural evolution, the last 3000 years, going from mostly tribal societies, to nations of millions of people, has been fairly brief. Our technology is more evolved than our sociology.
