The problem with monotheism is that a spiritual absolute would be the essence of sentience, from which we rise, not an ideal of wisdom and judgement, from which we fell.
The problem isn’t so much with religion, which is largely a cultural construct to get people to work together. Society couldn’t really function, if we just reveled in sentience. Basically folk tales for children.
It’s the fault of philosophy, for not questioning the fallacy of conflating the ideal with the absolute. It might be emotionally appealling to think our ideals are absolute, but it is socially dangerous to assumes one’s culture is universal, rather than unique. It empowers all sorts of entitlements, extremism, fanaticism, etc.
We really are still socially primitive, even with smart phones and nuclear bombs.
