The US cured the Depression with the economic boost of WW2 and ever since it has been the military industrial complex as the core of our economy. Which means it doesn't matter what the enemy is, just so long as there is an enemy. The problem is that there is no other strategy, other than spending money on war.
Look at the monumental strategic ineptitude of the last 70 years and the only war we clearly won was the Cold War, by spending ourselves into oblivion.
The countries in the Old World understand military has to be part of a larger strategy of survival, because they have been fighting each other for thousands of years. For us, it really is just "Wag the Dog." It's mostly about domestic politics and now we have created a little boy crying wolf situation, where Russia wins by not invading and the rest of the world whispers about those delusional Americans and gradually moves away, leaving us England and Israel as our main dependencies and allies. Both of which with increasingly delusional political practices.
Ten years from now, when the fact we can't physically move Ukraine away from the Russian border and don't need that particular crisis, they will make up and we will wonder where all the money went and people like you will have some other fear mongering to do.
