The whole of Western culture should be open to reconsideration. Given the current economic, social and environmental vortex we are being drawn into, it might well become necessary.
For example, good and bad are not some duel between righteousness and evil, but the biological binary of beneficial and detrimental. The 1/0 of sentience. It is the fact we assume good to be aspirational that conflicts become a race to the bottom, of us versus them, as all the higher order complexity, nuance and subjectivity is suspect.
It seems like there are two dynamics in nature; synchronization and harmonization.
One centripetal and the other centrifugal. Nodes circling in, as networks diversify out. Organisms and ecosystems.
People are inherently group oriented, because we are individually fairly powerless, but groups tend to coalesce around fairly basic denominators and resist anything questioning core assumptions, from the most tribal of societies, to the highest centers of learning.
Sometimes these dogmas go on for millennia. Our religions offer a good example. To the Ancients, gods were not so much some metaphysical entity, but a cross between memes and ideals. Those motivating concepts we as groups get swept up in. Which became personified, as they settled into cultural models.
For example, originally monotheism equated with monoculture, one people, one rule, one god.
Remember democracy and republicanism originated in pantheistic cultures, as they were analogies of multiculturalism. The many working together.
Rome adopted Christianity as the Empire solidified and remnants of the Republic were being shed. It was the original globalism.
Islam, on the other hand, is a more organic version, as it was not adopted by an empire, but served to unify the vision of one.
Yet the same problem arises, as a spiritual absolute would necessarily be the essence of sentience, from which we rise, not an ideal of wisdom and judgement, from which we fell.
The absolute, being a unitary state, lacks complexity and is elemental, while the ideal, as a vision of the pefect might seem unitary, but its real function is unification/synchronization and that gives power and power is dangerous, as any teenager in a fast car realizes.
So before we destroy ourselves, we need to learn what nature can teach us. For one thing, assuming the ideal as absolute only empowers the narrow minded and confuses the open minded. Philosophers should have given that a bit of thought.
The bull is power. The matador is art.
