Then why is Netanyahu on record directing Qatari money to Hamas?
The story seems to be to undercut the PA and any discussion of a two state solution.
Would Hamas have been anything more than another radical group, without this funding?
The Qatari's are a monarchy and seem intent on being mediators. It seems that if Netanyahu told them to send the money to the PA, that's where it would have gone.
I don't really have a dog in this fight, I just like to follow the news and it seems Israel is painting itself into a corner. It doesn't seem they can beat Hezbollah, without major damage to Israel, yet need to keep doing something, so further beating on Gaza, with a world watching, is the only choice. There doesn't seem to be any plan for a day after and the people in charge seem intent on keeping the war going as long as possible.
My sense is that Israel is about where Ukraine was a year ago, trying to spin what looked like a strategic disaster. Yes, lots of people bought it, but that didn't change the fact Russia had a lot more strategic depth, while the Ukrainians were just being used as a stick to poke them.
So whether you want to, or not, some objective thinking is necessary. Given the situation here in the US is that eventually the debt will matter and when it comes time to cut expenses, Israel could find itself on that list. A lot of those dual nationals might find their Israeli passports unhelpful in large parts of the world.
Somebody has to do more than jump around and beat their chests. Israelis might have won every war, but Jews haven't.
