There are a number of assumptions built into these conclusions.

One is that time is this narrative flow, from past to future and our lives are like a book, with a beginning and end.

That we are singular discrete individuals, with a sense of conscious awareness arising from the neurons and synapses in the brain.

Logically the effect of time is generated by change, in which future becomes past. Tomorrow becomes yesterday, because the earth turns. There is no literal dimension of time, because the past is consumed by the present, to inform and drive it. Causality and conservation of energy. Cause becomes effect.

It is the fact that we exist as mobile organisms, that makes this sequential process of perception necessary, to navigate.

Are we singular, or more like threads in a larger rope? How we experience this awareness is as an interface between our particular body and its context. How can we be sure we are not neurons in a hive mind and it's the same sense looking out through multiple eyes, much as we look out through two?

Is our sense of individuality real, or is it a physiological and cultural construct, of being tactile, object oriented, tool using creatures, whose minds most effectively connect to and focus on objects, rather than the processes and networks giving rise to these objects of focus, rather than the context in which they exist? Such that we see ourselves as objects, while context and process get lost in the peripheral vision.

Consider that energy is "conserved," because it is only present. Its changing configuration creates time, so there is no actual past for it to be lost in, nor future from which it arrives. As process and present, energy goes past to future, while the patterns it generates go future to past.

Think in terms of a wave. The energy drives it, as it passes through the medium, while the fluctuations rise and fall. So the energy goes to the future, while the forms it generates go to the past.

Now consider that consciousness also goes past to future, while the perceptions, emotions and thoughts giving it form go future to past.

Though it is the digestive, respiratory and circulatory systems processing the energy, that feeds this flame, while the mind sorts the forms and information being generated. Signals from the noise. In order to navigate.

How much thought do you give to what you were thinking yesterday, or last year? It might have influenced the thoughts and feelings you are experiencing today, but still it is the fact you are aware, than the details of which you are aware, that is the mystery.
