There is a basic dichotomy at the heart of this conundrum, between desire and judgement. The heart and head.
While we are driven by our desires, they have to be guided by our judgements. Yet this consumer culture is premised on glorifying any and all desires, appetites, wishes, wants, needs, impulses, as a way to sell something.
No one ever got rich or powerful by preaching restraint and any long term goals they promote are fig leaves over their actions.
People are linear and goal oriented, but nature is cyclical and circular. Instead of riding the waves up and down, we march off the highest cliffs.
There is no bubble that is too big to fail.
We are on the surface of history's largest bubble and America is just humanity washing up against the edge of the global petri dish.
Hopefully those making it through to the other side will hold onto the lessons learned.
