Thinking really is a cycle of observation and contextualization. Of taking fresh information and experiences and fitting them into our broader understanding, both expanding our current knowledge and bringing it to bear on the new. Trees in the forest.

Yet Western thought prioritizes the first, the observation, the event, the object. So our culture is this linear drive onto the next, specializing in the details, digitizing, quantifying, and monetizing everything, yet losing all meaning and context, as the signal becomes diverced from its context of the noise being erased.

Thus we are currently having an economic meltdown, but the financial markets, as the managers of this signal of money, are doing just fine, as the system tries to repair itself by pouring gobs more money into a broken process. Like the heart pumping blood, as it pours out through an open wound.

Even in schooling, the generalists would be the kids interested in everything, so that they naturally will sense how it all fits together, yet that goes outside the boxes of the curriculum, so they get diagnosed as attention deficient and medicated to keep their minds in the box.

As I like to point out though, there is a reason why the people leading armies are called Generals and Specialist is about one rank above private.
