Though the dynamic applies to society, as well. There will always be multitudes of factions, each with their sets of wishes and they cannot all be satisfied. Which we then form cultural and civil structures to regulate and prioritize. Consider liberal versus conservative, in terms of expanding the social space, versus having to apply structure in order to do so. If we better understand this cycle of expansion and consolidation, we could develop more strategic approaches to a physical reality and dynamic.
This means being able to learn and understand our place in this dynamic, which is a very large subject in itself.
While this might seem somewhat off topic, one of my favorite books is Gilbert Murray’s; Five Stages of Greek Religion. It really does go to the core of Western civilization and deals with issues we currently brush under the rug, in our supposed modern world.
It’s not a long read and worth the time.
