True. You do seem to be addressing logical objectivity and I was focused on the moral relativism, vs absolutism that seems to be tangential to your point.
The Catholic Church did effectively sanction the Divine Right of Kings. Which essentially subcontracted that top down Theocratic rule. Keeping their hands somewhat clean. It was only when the West went back to democratic systems, that separation of church and state became necessary.
