Trump is, first and foremost, a hustler and he saw the opportunity of all the popular frustration building. After the lessons of the first term, he had a serious reality check, as to the situation. The establishment would have been best served to just let him have his second term then and skate through it. But with Biden, they totally fucked up, by exposing all their own weaknesses to everyone.

Netanyahu is also a hustler, riding that Jewish cultural insularity and insecurity, that was useful in hold diaspora Judaism together, but in trying to create a country, becomes a form of collective autism, as there is such an underdeveloped ability to read others thinking and obsess over one's own obsessions.

Consider that most Jews Trump likely knows personally are similar hustlers. Wealthy real estate developers, etc. Not the sort of losers from New Jersey that want to go play settler on the West Bank.

Yet a big part of that populist wave Trump is riding hold to that backwoods Jesus Saves Christianity. Which is also a big institutional force in the military, as they draw a lot from those folk.

So when you think of the situation someone like Witkoff is in, as someone who understands the hustle and how religion is a big part of the control systems, it is likely people like him who are most leery of what is really happening and how disastrously it could play out for the overall Jewish culture.

Which is to say, there are lots of angles about to crash into each other.
