Trying to explain the current predicament to the various sides is like trying to explain to the dogs why you try breaking up their fight. For one thing, they simply cannot process that you are not taking the other dogs side, by trying to be objective.

When the Democrats lost the election in 2016, they had the option of taking the high road and accepted the buffoon had won and tried legislating around him, on the assumption that the institution will always be greater than any one man. So that by 2020, it would be evident who were the adults in the room.

Instead, they did the exact opposite and started throwing more mud than even Trump is able. To put this whole Russiagate fiasco in context, remember that we have managed to have a joint space program with the Russians, since the fall of the Soviet Union. For those of us old enough, or at least with some modicum of historical knowledge about the actual Cold War, this refutes any logic of the current fear mongering by the military industrial complex and their various stooges and hacks.

This country has been living on the equivalent of a national home loan for the last forty years and the fact we now have a bankruptcy skating con artist in charge is the result. It is an effect of our own media/money based culture and the total lack of any broader awareness, beyond whatever social fad has the twittering masses engrossed.

So yes, it is a waste of my time to try to educate anyone about the facts, but the future we have been borrowing against will soon arrive and Trump will be the least of our worries.

In another generation, we will not be worrying about what side we are on in the various age old Eurasian conflicts, but whether the land mass of the United States remains one country, or, like the Soviet Union, we break into various such nations and competing civil interests.
