Under all the gory details, the reality is that humanity is driven by basic dynamics and the eventual way to solve some of the consequent messes, is to better understand just what is going on. The causes, not just the effects.
There are centripetal and centrifugal forces in all of society and all societies. Nodes and networks, organisms and ecosystems.
There is the centripetal synchronization drawing elements together, bonding on the same wavelengths. Like a tool becomes one with the hand, or a good book becomes one with the mind. While the dynamic exists in the broader medium, that effectively harmonizes all the various nodes, as no one node can grow too large, before it siphons all sustaining energy available and descends back into the network.
One aspect relevant to Israel, Judaism and the West in general, is the concept of monotheism. The basic logical flaw of which is that ideals are not absolutes.
Truth, beauty, platonic forms are ideals. The codes, creeds, heroes, narratives at the core of every society are ideals. The center of gravity without which they would break apart and be scattered. Tower of Babel.
Yet the universal is the elemental, not the ideal.
A spiritual absolute would be the essence of sentience, from which we rise, not an ideal of wisdom and judgement, from which we fell. The light shining through and animating the film, than the narratives playing out on it.
So if one group assumes their ideals are absolute, than all others must be false and their very existence an affront to the one true ideal.
Three thousand years ago, when it was a tribe wandering in the Sinai Desert, having that tribal guardian angel looking over your little group is a good thing. 2500 years ago, that your Big Daddy was badder than the other tribe's Big Daddy was good thing. It's just not the Bronze Age anymore.
Ancient Israel was a monarchy. Democracy and republicanism originated in pantheistic cultures.
Christianity was an amalgam. The origin of the Trinity was the young god born in the spring to the old sky god and the earth mother. Though by the age of the Olympians, Zeus didn't give way to Dionysus.
Tradition prevailed over renewal. Which was why the story of Jesus's resurrection had such power. The new life pushing through the old.
Though by the time Rome adopted it as state religion, it too had started to calcify and so it was the monotheism that mattered, to validate the Empire rising from the ashes of the Republic. The Big Guy Rules. Divine right of kings.
The origins of the Trinity shrouded by the Holy Ghost, as the Catholic Church didn't really believe in renewal, or women, for that matter.
Providing the eschatological basis for the next 1500 years of monarchy. When the West went back to democracy and republicanism, it required separation of church and state, culture and civics.
The problem with making an Almighty God the moral policemen, was that as fear of God died, there wasn't an organic moral code to replace it, so the Will to Power rose to fill the void. Might is right.
Germany lost both WW1 and the Kaiser at the same time and it was the rankest, rawest tribalism that rose to fill the void. The Aryan Nation, National Socialism.
As it is, for much of the West, the only core principle remaining is profit, so all social, cultural, environmental value is dissolved by this economic Ebola virus. As we all swirl around that big drain in the center, with Israel determined to lead the way, as the rest of the world stands as far back as possible.
