Unfortunately we are linear, goal oriented organisms in this cyclical, circular, reciprocal, feedback driven, thermodynamic reality.
The problem of climate change activism, like so many other issues, is that it tries to address the effects of our civilization, without really digging down into what drives society toward the cliff.
For example, money functions as a social contract, enabling mass societies to exist, but people treat it as a commodity to mine out of society. Markets need it to circulate, while people see it as signal to extract and store. So ever more has to be added and ever more metastatic methods of storing what has been extracted have to be devised.
Since it functions as a contract, where the asset has to eventually be backed by a debt, storing the asset requires generating debt. Consequently much of our society and economy is built around the need to create debt, not sustain a stable society and the environment required for it.
The resulting dynamic creates a centripetal effect, as postive feedback draws the asset to the center, while negative feedback pushes the debt to the edges.
Given the Ancients devised debt jubilees to reset this process, it's not like it is a new phenomena, just one that has been studiously ignored.
The other prime method is having the government as debtor of last resort. The capital markets couldn't function, without the government siphoning up trillions in surplus investment money. Much of which is wasted on wars and social programs that only sustain populations as wards of the state, not work toward generating self sustaining communities.
As the executive and regulatory function of society, government is analogous to the central nervous system, while money and banking, as the value circulation system, are to blood and the body's circulation system.
If we were to recognize these relationships and functions, we might better sort out how a viable society works, not just run around trying to patch the distasters of our disfunctional, atomized, irresponsible culture.
Everyone demands rights, but no one wants responsibilties. No society can survive, with some organic connection between the two.
