We don't need to find some ever more promising story to tell ourselves, so much as first going back and figuring out the various fallacies built into our current beliefs.

In many ways we are still flat earthers living on a round planet. Due to our physiology, we tend to be linear and goal oriented, but reality is more cyclical, circular, reciprocal and feedback generated.

Consider the Ancients devised debt jubilees as circuit breakers to the feedback loop of compound interest 3000 years ago and here we are stuck in the same doom loop. As those with the wealth and power use it to leverage ever more wealth and power, simply because they can. There is no basic understanding of this elemental dynamic, that could be taught in elementary school, so we find ourselves sucked down the various rabbit holes, echo chambers.

Israel is certainly a good example of an echo chamber spinning out of control.

When we built electrical systems, we put circuit breakers in them, so they don't melt the wiring and burn up the furniture.

That is just one of the many conceptual flaws built into our systems.
