What causes entropy? Is it energy radiating to infinity, or is it forms coalescing and mixing towards equilibrium? It would seem to be both, yet these are diametrically opposed.

Galaxies are energy radiating out, as structure coalesces in.

What drives a wave is the energy, but what we perceive are the forms, the fluctuations and undulations from which we extract frequencies and amplitudes.

As these mobile creatures with a sequential process of perception and a narrative based culture, we think of time as the point of the present moving past to future, but the reality is that change turns future to past. Tomorrow becomes yesterday because the earth turns.

There is no literal dimension of time, because the past is consumed by the present, to inform and drive it. Causality and conservation of energy. Cause becomes effect.

Energy is "conserved," because it is the present. Its changing form creates time. As well as temperature, pressure, color, sound. Frequencies and amplitudes.

Time is asymmetric because it is a measure of action and action is inertial. The earth only turns one direction.

Different clocks can run at different rates simply because they are separate actions. Think metabolism.

So the energy, as process, goes past to future, while the patterns generated go future to past.

As consciousness goes past to future, while the patterns defining it, thoughts and emotions, go future to past.

As products go start to finish, while the production line goes the other way, consuming material and expelling product.

We have the digestive, respiratory and circulatory systems processing the energy driving us on, while the central nervous system sorts through the forms precipitating out.

So which is the real direction of entropy? The energy driving toward the future, or the forms falling away into the past?
