What if, at the end of the day, there are no answers, only truths?

People don't care for truths, they only want answers. That's why there are so many priests and politicians, while philosophy is neutered and confined to the back alleys of academia.

Good and bad are not some cosmic duel, between the forces of righteousness and evil, but the basic biological binary of beneficial and detrimental. The 1/0 of sentience. When we view good as aspirational rather than elemental, conflicts do become a race to the bottom, of us versus them, black versus white. Any nuance and subjectivity is suspect, so all the higher order social contructs, respect, responsibility, trust, honor, etc, are lost, because they are too complicated.

We can't see the other side of the coin, because it is evil, so only those most obsessed, by fame, fortune, fanaticism, etc, rise to the top. And the loudest, dumbest voices on the extremes rule.

A spiritual absolute would be the essence of sentience, from which we rise, not an ideal of wisdom and judgement, from which we fell. Knowledge is a function of perspective and when the herd is running, the antelope don't ask questions. Only the little critters in the bushes know to question everything, if they want to live.

At this point, the fire has started and there is a lot of dry tinder. When it burns out, those left will have learned a few valuable lesons, that hopefully last awhile, before it has to be repeated.
