Yes, the mind holds the structures, but it's the digestive, respiratory and circulatory systems processing the energy.

So our minds extract and construct what are necessarily inherently static structures and constantly arrange them to find how they ultimately fit together, but it seems the effect is we end up chasing our tail, say like trying to figure out whether the chicken or egg comes first.

Maybe we need to step back and consider the processes generating the patterns.
