Yet we have a society that is all about quantization, atomization, monetization, individualization. Why is it that we obsess over the conceptual nodes and let the networks fade into the background?

The fact is that our reductionist, linear, goal oriented culture has deep roots in our biological makeup, as mobile, tool using creatures with a narrative based culture. Maybe the coming economic and environmental breakdown will encourage us to appreciate the cyclical processes of nature a little better.

Not totally getting my hopes up, but under the shell that is cracking, something is hatching.
