You have a much better grasp of the history than I, but that goes to my point, that rather than trying to describe every detail, we need to step back and figure out the patterns in the bigger picture. Consider Rome adopted a monotheistic sect as it's state religion, as the Empire solidified and remnants of the Republic had faded. While democracy and republicanism originated in pantheistic cultures, as they modeled multiculturalism, the many as one, while to the Ancients, monotheism was monocultural, one people, one rule, one god. That's how deeply the thought control goes. How do you break that yoke?
We are linear goal oriented creatures in a cyclical, circular, reciprocal, feedback generated reality and we are pushing up against the bounds of our planetary petri dish, so how do we revert to a more balanced, yin/yang paradigm, from the God Almighty, top down vision?
Logically a spiritual absolute would be the essence of sentience, from which we rise, not an ideal of wisdom and judgement, from which we fell, but all of Western culture is formulated to treat the ideal as absolute. Yet the balance to the absolute is the infinite. When reality is a balance and tension between polarities, the fights get all too real, as the conceptual bases get ever more manipulated.
